Brian Timmons Dear friends, When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly newsletter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own. Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have re-sales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information. Brian Timmons |

Our Lives
What Happened This WeekPortugal: After a chaotic three weeks of getting ready, making sure everything was taken care off, anticipating what could go wrong and getting supplies in for planned work, etc, etc, etc, we got on Iberia direct to Madrid ...that was fine -Premium Economy is a slight price increase giving a better sear, more leg room, substantial recline, better food, WIFi, entertainment package. But Madrid "special assistance" person was a horrible disaster. For some reason she thought it her job description to control the flow of people into immigration -who were doing nothing while we were being held in an outer building away from our traveling group- after 3 hrs Lita had had enough and blew a few blood vessels. The gastapo controller returned her ticket and we moved thru the system as we should have. What her problem was I do not know but we were / are left with unpleasant memories of Madrid airport ...we had a long layover before moving on to Lisbon. After 30 hrs of traveling, we were bushed... but met up with friends -food and drink revived us... after one hotel night we moved into the VRBO place we had rented for a revolving group of friends... all is working fine for a group of 10 -65-82 year olds with bad backs, bad knees, weak minds, blind, living on the 4th floor of a building with a non-functional elevator... it has been broken for some time -even though we were just informed of this... yeah right!!! Lisbon... lots of tourists... lots of restaurants which seem moderately priced and reasonable quality by CR standards. Weather is great // here for a few more days and then we move north a bit ending in Porto. Last night I had to have a a document scanned and sent to CR. Western Union didn't do that. We had a pizza, thought about it, decided to try a hotel. Found a nice upscale one, found a reception clerk, explained what I wanted, he said no problem, took the six pages and input the three addresses, scanned and sent... I asked how much, he said "nothing". I was speechless. Today we rook the electric commuter train to a seaside resort are about 30 min from downtown "old Lisbon". Very, very nice. Lisbon really is a bifurcated city -old and new... they really do not have much to do with one another. Yes, old has entertainment and restaurants, narrow streets and erratic sidewalks, quaint, bars and urine stained sidewalks. New Lisbon has the offices and business centers which are currently driving Portugal's future. Each have their own contribution... We find restaurant food to be about 60% less than CR and generally better value and quality but I will take CR beaches over what I have seen here. |
