Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly newsletter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Our Lives

Weather: It almost feels like we are swinging into the dry season... this is about one month early... no rain to speak of this past week.

Foreclosure: Now the guy wants to rent it back with an option to purchase for an agreed to price within 6 mo. OK, I don't want the property. I don't expect this re-purchase to happen nor do I expect him to continue making rent payments but in the interim, I will play along with it hoping he is able to pull off a miracle. His wife and teenage daughter live on the property... they do not want to move... fine... the way to prevent this, is clear...

A Cultural Challenge: I've discussed this before in various venues for years... the concept of "preventative" maintenance... vs "breakdown" repairs... if something is likely to fail, deal with it before it happens to ensure it doesn't fail and you have continuous service... I have been here 17 years... I have not seen any movement towards this concept... and we are all victims of the consequences... more unreliability of whatever one depends on. Yes, in the most recent case it was again the stupid car... after leaving the boy's luncheon in a nearby restaurant, the car overheated. I pulled off the road and called decided to try the roadside assistance program I had purchased. It worked... I came back in a flatbed "grua". Three days in the garage... with instructions to change the remaining three hoses... they had changed only one of 4 hoses previously... duh... under the guise of "preventative" maintenance, one would have expected that the other three would be suspect... all being original 2008 parts... and should also be changed... for an additional $160 for parts...

Full Occupancy: Still... love it... no maintenance... love it even more... between this and the car being out of service, I enjoyed the hammock...

Residencias Los Jardines: Deferred maintenance continues to be done and we continue to move in the right direction.

News Items of the Week


"Cementgate" continues to dominate the news as the Supreme Court and the Board of Directors of the BCR bank continue to squirm, dance, duck, run, lie, etc. the normal. Fitch and Moodys lowered the credit rating on the bank to "bb- with a negative outlook" and the president has decided to have a prostate operation so he is "recovering" and out of contact for 22 days... or for how long it takes to blow over...
