Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

In an effort to make the format more interesting and visually appealing and to field inquiries re. El Dorado, the news letter is now being distributed by Jan Kozak, Marketing Manager, Hacienda El Dorado. I will remain the author.

NOTE: Given the various reports of trouble on the two websites, this edition will be prepared by the group in Argentina which host the sites and who developed the Los Jardines website. I first met them 10 years ago and have had a wonderful working relationship with them ever since.

Property Management, Rentals, Re-Sales

Palm Tree Removal:  final arrangements will be made this week to remove and then to further explore the effects of three roots in the drainage system.

Additional Maintenance Help:  We hiring an additional gardener to free up our main maintenance person and allow him to focus on deferred maintenance. This should last about a month.

Golf Junkets and Beach Trips:  Several of our residents are golfers.  They and friends went to an organized event on the Nicoya Peninsula;  Other residents took trips to Samara and elsewhere.  All seemed hot,  tired and glad to have returned to comfort and the cooler climate of the Central Valley.

Our Lives

WEATHER: Beautiful with little wind and one terrific tropical downpour--we needed it but we didn't need it all in 30 min...

MARKET INTEREST: We continue to see more people looking.

THE MIGHTY PERICO: picture this:  a 4 oz bird stalking a 135lb woman---and winning!!!!!!!!  Lita and the perico had been fighting... meaning that the perico was biting her and she got fed up  and whacked him-- from previous experience, parrots learn differently (if they ever learn). He went on the offensive and evidently decided he was going to teach her once and for all...  he started stalking her, and she, not being able to see him, retreated from room to room and finally ended up standing on the edge of the Jacuzzi calling me for help...........

WATER:  The public system is again off for the major part of the day--for maintenance.  This has happened about 4 times in the past year.  We are unaffected because we have our own well... with better water than AyA provides. --and obviously more reliable as well.

AyA is continuing to build out the water delivery system they received a grant / loan for.  Huge pipes are being installed from Escazu to Santa Ana, terminating at the new AyA control center being build in down town Santa Ana.  Pipes of varying diameters are being installed into Pozos and other areas and as far as Brasil de Mora.  What the overall distribution and plan is, I don't know but they are continuing to work on it, have an inventory of various diameter pipe, and even though the installations are currently "disconnected" one can only hope that some day they will all be tied together.  This latter expectation is a hope since this is CR and we continue to see things here which defy logic.  We'll see.
