» NOTES

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter —determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens —the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

In an effort to make the format more interesting and visually appealing and to field inquiries re. El Dorado, the news letter is now being distributed by Jan Kozak, Marketing Manager, Hacienda El Dorado. I will remain the author.

WEATHER: -- Many mostly cloudy days with cooler than normal temperatures. 

Playa Carrillo and La Leyenda:  I negotiated a good deal at a great hotel but the people--family of owners--took off to parts unknown before the hotel gave their final offer. We couldn't get in touch with them to re-route them probably because ICE was having more problems than usually connecting cell phones. We decided to take advantage of the hotel offer and contact some friends to join us. We had stayed there a number of times so we knew what to expect and we were not disappointed. The service, friendly staff, and well maintained small hotel with a great, reasonably priced menu was a great as ever. We rented a three bedroom house and used two of the three bedrooms with private swimming pool, kitchen, and living room. The kitchen has a blender, coffee maker, microwave, oven, toaster oven, slow cooker, and complete set of pots and pans, plates, etc.  The hotel is not on the beach but they do have a trailer offering chase lounges, chairs, drinks, bathroom and fresh water shower.  At $75 per night per room including a full breakfast, I thought it was reasonable. The dining room is attractive, the service is good, and food is attractively presented. Dinner for two including two drinks was around C11,000. Had we occupied the third bedroom, the per couple cost would have been less.  I made sure that the unit was available at the last minute and committed to it. It worked out well for them and for us.  Our friends want to return and spend 4 nights--which is fine with us.  Carrillo is about a 4 hr. drive.

Playa Carrillo is the nicest beach I know in CR; it's  picture postcard perfect--half moon bay protected by a reef, wide, gently sloping sandy beach flanked by palm trees, no development, and only a few people normally. Three weeks ago, there were substantial waves;  this time at full moon there were few--just a big bathtub--no undertow -- great for swimming....

Macadamia nut pie: Last year I received as a gift my first ever macadamia nut pie--I didn't know what to expect. Wow!! it's fantastic. This year we were again offered this treat and with three pies, have been able to share the gift with good friends......I don't think I've ever tasted such a great pie filling and crust as well. Too bad Christmas comes only once a year.
