RENTAL VACANCIES & LIGHTNING!
» NOTES
When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter —determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.
Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.
More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens —the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.
In an effort to make the format more interesting and visually appealing and to field inquiries re. El Dorado, the news letter is now being distributed by Jan Kozak, Marketing Manager, Hacienda El Dorado. I will remain the author.

Purchaser Survey: We're missing replies from 5 purchasers. Paul returns in October, we'll complete the analysis then.
» RESIDENCIAS LOS JARDINES
Rentals: We actually have two units scheduled to open--113 beginning Sept. 1 and 112 beginning Oct. 1.
Phone System Malfunction: While identifying the problem has been frustrating with everyone pointing the finger at others, the bouncing ball seems to have come to rest with the caretaker of the PBX machine. As of Saturday it is still not working and we'll have to wait until Tuesday to bring a replacement part which we hope will solve the problem. Even though it is isolated by a UPS device and basically works from a battery, lightning and power surges seem the most likely culprits.
Lighting: We had lighting strike one of our palm trees. Fortunately, it did not hit a Royal Palm but rather a smaller "Christmas" or "Vichy" Palm. It blew the top out of it and it became a torch... We're removing it from the garden.

» OUR LIVES
Weather: Lots and lots of rain and thunder storms this week. Lightning struck one of our palm trees and took it out.
Lita and Budgies: The eggs never hatched. Mother did a lot of sitting all for nothing.
Vacation: We spent the week in Playa Carrillo with another couple and had a great time. The hotel we stayed at--La Leyenda--was it's normal fantastic self....the staff -- everyone without exception--is well trained, service oriented, helpful, attentive, and accurate. I credit the manager, and I've told him so; he must be doing something right--at which point he pointed to an array of books on managing. The three bedroom house we rented with private pool was well equipped and worked out well for us. We took some things so were not totally dependent on the restaurant. The hotel's dinning room was great; we ate all our dinner meals there and breakfast was included. The price was reasonable, the presentation was excellent and the food was delicious. We checked out other hotels when we were there and found that most were not being maintained and had no clients--the Leyenda, while not full by any measure, had clients, were maintaining the property and taking care of their clients. They will survive where others will / are failing. They came off their rack rate and we agreed to a rate all could live with. We will go again and will recommend the place to others. It's a 4 hr drive but much easier now with the San Jose - Caldera highway.
