Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly newsletter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have re-sales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

Each of the units consists of two bedrooms / two bathrooms, and a large living/dining/kitchen area. The floor plan of each of these units has eliminated the optional "den / office" divider. The result is a larger area offering more flexible furniture arrangements while still maintaining the option of including an office area. At 105m2 plus two parking spots each and storage locker, they offer a great opportunity for someone seeking views, security, central location, and first class, all round living...

Our Lives

What Happened This Week

Weather: Enough rain to keep all happy... garden is looking great.

Stories

A Little More Progress:

1. Rentals: The would be client for 106C cancelled before moving in... why? Who knows?

2. Repossession: I expect this to happen this week. The owner of the shares has not paid.

3. Pool Work: This work is progressing as expected. The faux rock painting is 80% done and the tile work is probably 25%. We are taking advantage of the other work to do some other needed work.

4. Slippery walkway tile: The person who was suppose to show up, did not. We reached out to a company in Cartago who sent a person to assess. He believes what I want can be done and will provide us a quote. We will see if sand blasting the surface will be less expensive than replacing the tile.

5. BS!!!! #1: This continues: A friend of mine building a hotel in the Caribbean has all his construction permits... all of them. His harassment continues and now he will be tied up thru judicial process for ??? Who knows how long... and there is no basis for it according to him and his permits and re-surveying have verified everything... There seems to be a fight going on amongst government agencies over jurisdiction and perhaps bribes by previous government officials and he is caught in the middle.

6. Foreclosure (last week): Having bought out the mortgage on Jan. 21, I still await the assignment by a judge of my ownership rights. After complaining of the delay and receiving a court reply that the lapse time was "normal" and "reasonable" -more government BS. I was given a timeline... It would be dealt with in the first week in June... We have just completed the week... We will follow up next week... I have a person waiting to buy it... he is tico, he understands.

This week when we followed up we were told that the court was 8 mo. behind... what a croc of ????? wow!!!!! liars, lazy bloody bas...ds!, the lawyer is hopeful that the latest msj is also a croc... He noted that he had just received adjudication on a similar case he had filed just a week or so before mine... we'll see...

7. Website: No progress... mmm????

8. Internet: Our problem was that the modem from one of the service providers had tripped out... why? who knows? Probably a power surge... We reset it and again we are flying...

News Items of the Week

Comments:

1. The country is broke... tax revenue is not coming in; bills are to be paid, government wages are frozen (but the normal result of this is that everyone gets bumped up to a new job category so the salary outflow will continue), the government is considering rescinding some of the taxes it just imposed in their new tax structure, some have not yet taken effect so it won't make a difference, the other -a tax on the basic food basket will have an effect... less revenue, Moody's has downgraded CR to "negative" outlook, the government will have to borrow more money to pay their bills but the legislature will not approve it until the government reduces their expenses... which isn't happening... going abroad for borrowed money will be expensive (and the legislature continues to disallow this) with the "negative" outlook and borrowing from within the country will be even more expensive... the country's finances are really dismal..and unlike the US, CR cannot print it's own money... but still, the colone:US $ rate of exchange is about the same... so this may well change creating inflation... how much longer can the government obfuscate the obvious???

The number of cases and the number of hospitalizations has increased -especially in the northern area... Total deaths now stands at 12... CR is still doing very well. I spoke with one tico who seems a little aware of what is going on... he has two fears: (1) With Nicaragua seemingly not doing anything to stop the contagion, in fact, seemingly encouraging it by holding government sponsored rallies and maintaining that the Virgin, the Catholic church and God will save them. that many Nicas will flee to CR... The border is porous in many areas and CR does not have the means to patrol and control all aspects of the border... Whether this is what is happening or not, I don't know but this weeks has seen a substantial increase in the contagion in the border area... so, perhaps he is right.

2. He is concerned that CR will continue to close the border to tourism because of the expected increase in contagion in the US caused by opening too soon and the recent mass riots / protests... this will further hurt the country... since the country is so dependent on tourism.

This person said his business was down about 60%. Another person operating a local chain of pizza places, seems to be having problems as well.
