 Brian Timmons Dear friends, When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly newsletter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own. Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have re-sales and rental availability. Our Lives
What Happened This WeekWeather: Less and less rain / winds have not yet really started but normally appear over the next couple weeks. We had several good rains this week which gives us breathing room to finish our summer transitional work. Garden: Continuing on maintenance -lighting repairs / pipe / valve repairs. We are still rehabing irrigation and and have readied the battery operated watering devices... we will be installing them this coming week. I would like to think we are getting near the end of this... we'll see. StoriesInternet: Still an issue this past week. Part of the problem has been power outages which electronics do not like and even though most are isolated via UPS (battery / surge protection devices) they do not seem to work perfectly. In addition, we had an improperly configured router connecting to our LAN... we finally traced it down and fixed it. But this occurred over two different 3-4 hour sessions and various people expressing frustration... In addition, I interviewed a new service provider which is bring fiber optics up the street and offers upload and download speeds to same. The bottom line, once we get the new equipment installed (this week) we may eliminate TIGO completely (in February when the new provider will have installed the service on our street). As I have said before, I have been promised wonderful performance before but it has always fallen short of the promise... We'll see... Shareholder Registration: Progress but slow but I now have what I hope to be all the information. Misc. Legal Work: The changes in the laws over the past year have caused all to make significant changes as to how they do business. I am playing catch up as I wanted things to settle out... one some issues I benefited by waiting / on others I did not. I think many of the legal changes will be finished this week and I believe I have also sorted out a conundrum which has been bothering me for months. Scotiabank: I think I have found an out from under them... BAC-- This all came about when a friend reconnected with a previous Scotiabank employee to was good and was recruited by BAC... he and my friend reconnected and we interviewed him but according to him, they are not as anal as Scotiabank and we have specifically charged him with being our only BAC account contact / manager. We have each started the account set up process and for Doneste S.A. as well. If all goes well, I'll be giving the middle finger salute to Scotiabank real soon. Death: Our CR friend died on Monday and was interred on Tuesday... it is fast here -he was 85 and had suffered cancer for 3 years. While maybe a bit morbid, I'll explain the burial procedure at this cemetary: Not being an expert on this but having buried our granddaughter early this year, I noted the difference here: They had purchased a plot in the Atenas cemetary. Like all the plots there, the crypt had been built--about 8" X 10' by 16" high above ground covered in white tile with a place for a plaque. The crypt extended about 18" below ground. A slide about 8' long was dug and the casket moved in side the crypt. The opening was sealed with bricks and the date of interment was marked in the parging. Night Driving: I hate it and this is why: Returning from the funeral around 5:30-6:15 we encountered: three cars without headlights on, four cars with no tail lights, two trucks with no taillights..only reflective tape. My other friend has now been returned home from the hospital and will be made comfortable until the end... I have decided not to attend... I cannot handle it... I will grieve alone. ThanksGiving: We were invited to friends for what was a fantastic turkey with all the traditionals. Over ate, under drank, ready to do it again. Celebration: A year ago a young tico couple bought a property I foreclosed on (the borrower never paid me a dime -he was a scoundrel). In addition to a down payment, I took back a mortgage. The purchaser / borrower has been absolutely perfect -paid one day early or on time each and every month. He now has secured bank financing so wants to pay me out. I am hosting he and his wife for a perfect record... I am still advised that the recent foreclosure is still scheduled to sell in the next two weeks. I will believe it when it happens and there will be no celebration with the dead beat borrower. |
