Brian Timmons Dear friends, When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly newsletter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own. Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have re-sales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information. Brian Timmons |

rentals & sales Paradisus Condos / Rohrmoser Each of the units consists of two bedrooms / two bathrooms, and a large living/dining/kitchen area. The floor plan of each of these units has eliminated the optional "den / office" divider. The result is a larger area offering more flexible furniture arrangements while still maintaining the option of including an office area. At 105m2 plus two parking spots each and storage locker, they offer a great opportunity for someone seeking views, security, central location, and first class, all round living... Our Lives
Weather: There is less and less rain. We are readying our sprinklers / hoses / and misc. dry weather mode. We expect to hire a young person Dec. 1 dedicated to watering / raking / sweeping. What Happened This Week:Heredia House: I received word that the buyer has been funded by the bank so evidently the bank liked the house. Closing should occur next week. Distritcuatro: I have received and accepted an offer. It should close next week. Comment: after working for 1 year + on repairing / marketing / each of these houses, I receive two offers within days of each other and final confirmation... one on Thanksgiving day and the other on Black Friday... both of which should close next week. The Heredia offer is good... Lita does just fine... D4 offer is the best I could do and it allows me an exit plan... sometimes that is what is needed. Gardening: We have been working the gardeners extra hours this week... and probably next week after which we will back them off to mtnc. mode and bring in a person dedicated to watering, sweeping, raking, washing. This should work well if I can teach him how to use a sprinkler... don't laugh... it has been an issue for 15 years... I expect a fight to train the new person... previous gardeners would hold a hose endlessly instead of using a sprinkler, and then picking up a broom, rake, or ?? and periodically moving the sprinkler... multitasking is a challenge... Vacancies: In December 5, one planned (126) and one unexpected (112). Now we have 106C. Only one inquiry... Fiscal Situation: The colon has again more or less stabilized at a new level... 613 : 1... The question is what happens in latter January. Talking with local ticos, they are worried. Business decisions are being held up. A New Dawning: If there is any truth to the saying that it is always darkest just before dawn, then perhaps I can look forward to a re-set. This past week saw the negotiating of two sales / the management of Doneste / The management of my stable of houses / clients / and hosting -cooking- for 10 for Thanksgiving... this schedule is total ridiculous and incompatible with "retirement" which in my case is BS. it has virtually never happened... and inconsistent with what I really want to be doing... By Dec. 1 Doneste regular mgt should be back, both houses should be sold and I no longer have to deal with them... yes I will have three vacancies and on entertainment commitment foo 15 or so people mid Dec. but that is it... |
News Items of the Week
COMMENTS The Sala IV -constitutional court- has been reviewing the proposed tax reform. Initially they were going to squash it because it limited their pay raises. For some reason, they have reversed their assessment and have now agreed there is nothing unconstitutional in what is being proposed. Friday night they gave the green light to the government to begin debating the proposals for the second and final voting. It also seems they have lowered the threshold of votes required. Something may actually pass. In the meantime two appeal courts have reversed the lower court's ruling in the cases of the teachers and RECOPE... in each case, the first ruling was that their strikes were unconstitutional. In the appeal, they courts found they legal... in logic that defies explanation... and causes rolled backwards eyeballs... BTW, the teachers are still on strike, still receiving their pay... the school year has been cancelled... |
