Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Construction Log
Updates about Hacienda El Dorado

Rio Oro: This property has been sold and our dreams for it have ended. Seven years of work, extensive financial commitment, long creative hours, lots of leg work, and many sleepless nights... all for naught. We lost money but we survived to move on. The Venezuelan purchasers have a different vision, on that the current market and land will support. I am confident they will be successful. While I don't know the details and some of the plan is still being created, their project will consist of approx. 200, 65m2 (690 sf), one and two bedroom condominiums targeted for the lower end home buyer. They expect to start construction very soon having taken the three month due diligence period to formulate and test their plans and received initial blessing from the regulators such that the purchasers are assured there are no major obstacles with their vision. Our work had paved the way for this. We will continue to be connected to them but not in a development or builder capacity. They all seemed to be competent, capable and simple nice people to know and to work with.

Residencias Los Jardines
Property Management, Rentals, Re-Sales

Tree Cutting: has begun and is proceeding as planned...

Big Changes: I'll be stepping down as the property manager of Residencias Los Jardines and the reporting to the Board of Directors of Doneste S.A.. This was a difficult decision but one which has been actively considered for some time and very actively considered over the past 5 months. A number of things didn't happen and did happen that lead to this decision. Some 20 years ago I made a commitment to myself that if certain conditions weren't right then it was time to make some changes. While the transition will be difficult, when all is said and done, it will probably be assessed as the right thing to have been happened.

I will continue to work with individual home owners to market and manage their rentals with all that that entails... this part will be seamless and will not be affected by withdrawing from managing Doneste's interests. If they like what I do, they can continue using me; if I don't like doing it, I won't. This arrangements makes life very simple.

Market Activity

Sales: one couple is on site getting a "feel" for life at Los Jardines and a specific unit they are interested in.

Rentals: 6 viewings. four shorter term rentals -in three cases, they each wanted something "right away"... the longer term opportunities didn't work out due to price -budget issues.

Our Lives

WEATHER: the transition has definitely started. We've had two thunder storms with soaking rains both of which have been followed by clearing... just what is suppose t happen.

All in a Week's Living in CR:

Life here in the Central Valley is returning to normal although there are still fewer cars on the roadways and there will be next week.....some holidayers have not yet returned. Stated hotel rates are coming down 30-35% and in reality, less if one bargains well. Our guests tried on several tours--one to Puntarenas and the catamaran party boat and one to La Paz Water Garden, Volcano Poas and the coffee plantation. They loved both. I don't know if they have more energy or not for another one. we'll see.

Personally, I'll be busy over the next month working through this transition. If my blood pressure substantially down from 160 over 100 my body will tell me it's was the right decision. At 67 years old there are some things I don't have to do and shouldn't and there are promises I've made to myself based on life experiences which I should follow. I don't have the longer term mapped out yet but I have cleared the way on two fronts to start inventing my and our futures.
