Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Our Lives

WEATHER: Normal rainy season weather...

RITEVE: in and out in 20 min. piece of cake... unlike previous years... different car

AGED BEEF: to early to tell if it will be successful. Still aging and still untested even though Lita is a bit miffed at the process and wait...

Hotel Guanamar: as I write, we are again back to Playa Carrillo. This wasn't planned. We simply took advantage of new friends who we had encouraged to come here, I negotiated a good deal for them (from $135 to $80 -taxes and breakfast included in a room overlook the ocean and bay). They suggested (in Lita's presence) we join and she jumped at the opportunity. If you've been married long enough you learn that it's easier to negotiate with a terrorist than your wife so here we are... When we here here two weeks ago, we re-connected with a reservationist we had known at Leyenda. I approached her again and was able this time, to negotiate a deal even during the CR school break that I couldn't negotiate two weeks earlier. Weather is perfect... spent 5 hrs in the surf and hammock which I brought along this time as well as chairs... Our new friends -from Austria and Russia- are enjoying their visit as well.

The hotel is built in a perfect setting, contoured to the hill on which it is built, overlooking the bay and facing the sunset. It was originally built by Japanese and still has the unmistakable architectural flair. The huge rooms (400+ sf) has a complete wall of glass outing on to a large covered deck facing the bay. The dining / breakfast area is, of course a high, palm thatched structure with the same view, the sunken swimming pool between the dining and bar area is surrounded by a large deck / lounge area and the bar it raised and the premier viewing spot... they make great mojitos and pina coladas... for a while it fell into disrepair and got tired bu the two ticas who now own it, are bring it back... it's not yet perfect and some obvious and not expensive things should be added... and we hope they take care of these little things...

Re. corruption in CR: alive and thriving... everyone pointing the finger, new topics all the time, too many to keep count of, loud mouths proclaiming to open up the pages, look under the rocks, promising to take a thorough look, ferret out ??????????? talk, talk, talk, and empty promises... it's unfortunate... until this behavior stops, there is little change of any progress... and not much hope for the people -regardless of the propaganda about increased exports, one has to realize that that is in the international company free trade zone and little of that gets "trickled down" to the people... in the mean time, the parrots will continue flying, the surf continue pounding, and the sun rising... none of which has anything to do with government and culture...
