Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Our Lives

WEATHER: Normal rainy season weather...

I stayed away from government agencies this week:

Two Down on the "Bucket List": On our trip Playa Carrillo, we did two things which I had been wanting to do -one for 10+ years and one for a year.

Punta Islita: I had read about this for years and had wanted to go. It's traditionally a difficult place to get to -roads of sorts now service it. It's about 45 min. south of Carrillo... It focal point is the Hotel Punta Islita... a large complex nicely nestled into the bay mountains... exclusive at $300 + per night... very, very few people there. The hotel, is, of course, beautiful but... at that price it should be. The beach is not nice... black sand, lots of pebbles and a substantial part of the bay is rock...I don't understand the attraction to this location. It's off my bucket list... and I don't expect to return.

Nicaraguan Beef outlet: While this make no rational sense, I have, over the years, had great beef from Nicaragua. A year ago, I had located a wholesale outlet in Liberia. I'd phone several time, they do not have an outlet in San Jose and I wasn't going to drive to Liberia for a trial... however, I did incorporate it into this trip by taking a slightly longer way home. As of now, I'm not too impressed... I had been lead to believe, the beef was aged... that doesn't appear to be the case... what they had and what I bought looks very similar -albeit at a better price- to what I can buy anywhere around Santa Ana... I was told it wed age it in the vacu-pack bags for two weeks, cut it into individual servings, and freeze until you want them. We've done this with frozen USDA "Choice" slabs of Delmonico and NY strips from BELCA... In another week I'll cut and package and try... we'll see. I did try the de-boned leg of lamb... it was less than impressive -it ended up as stew.
