Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Construction Log
Updates about Hacienda El Dorado

Rio Oro: We met, we talked, we're scheduled for a 2nd. meeting this coming Thursday. Conceptually, all seems fine but I suspect the devil will be in the details.

Residencias Los Jardines
Property Management, Rentals, Re-Sales

Market Activity: --

Sales: No one looking.

Rentals: No one looking.

WOOD EATING MONSTERS: (epilogue) the cabinets were removed, the area cleaned and sprayed and new cabinets and counter have been replaced in three areas. We found the source of what were termites... a tree covered with a large leafed philodendron fine, fell over in the wind. Under the leaves and bound to the trunk was the nest...

INTERNET Woes: (epilogue) The new equipment was installed last Saturday and we've been up and running without interruptions (except when the power went down due to high winds). So far, the Internet fix seems to be working. We need a longer trial period for me to restore my confidence.

WORK PROGRAMS: We've completed the removal of a perimeter hedge which no longer worked. The developer to our east built a very high wall cutting out the light for the trees. We had to remove them and prepare for re-landscaping the area with different type of plants. We're also doing a major trimming on the remaining hedge -it's simple grown too high and is too difficult to maintain.

and

The water fall pump motor failed. After 6 years use, it was grinding and grinding with probably bad bearings. We've replaced the motor, and now people are again enjoying the feature.

Our Lives

WEATHER: VERY, VERY windy -highest winds in 13 years, beautiful temperatures -very dry...

Between cabinet and pump repairs and office work, we've only had time for two dinner parties and a healthy amount of laughs and good times...

Our guest is still here undergoing a regiment of dental work.

MISC: Since Nicaragua "invaded" a swamp claimed by CR, CR punched a road into this previously inaccessible area. The road has come under criticism from various groups most over environmental damage... The government is now out of money -the road needs 10 bridges and two 200 meter sections to complete... It is a gravel road in very wet, swampy area... it will probably wash out and be rendered impassible with the first rains... it's CR's "road to no where" and one can't get there anyway because there are no bridges... and there are two major gaps.

The price of gas is going up substantially -C109 colones or about $0.20 L Along with this will come a probably substantial increase in electricity (a small portion of which is generated from oil).
