Dear friends,
When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.
Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.
More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Rental Vacancy: We had a 18 mo. client suddenly but not unexpectedly move out. I had been working to encourage this. The tenants (employee's of a local company weren't the best neighbors), were not respecting the house or the property nor neighbors. Not only I had problems with the company's revolving employees, but I had had problems with the company itself. I had upped the ante and whether that had anything to do with their decision to leave, I don't know. When they said they no longer needed the unit, I was only too happy to change the lock and while they subsequently said they wanted the remaining 10 days paid rent, I said I'd give them credit and then charge that against what they owe and speculated that they shouldn't rush out and spend anything. In the end, I suspect it will work out o.k. for the owner. Regardless, Unit 116 is now available for rent -see below.
So far we've done a lot of cleaning, some minor repairs which is normal, and it is now in show condition. I have a number of inventory items to deal with and will do so after Christmas.
Market Activity: no one... the people who could have been interested in 116 several days after they inquired but they had leased a place in Atenas. I have a number of short term people who have been here before but for that to work, I have to be able to string them together such that the owner doesn't loose out... we'll see.

Our Lives
WEATHER: it's still a combination of overcast, some rain, and partial sun.
Christmas: The streets and roadways of the Santa Ana / Escazu area have been chaotic, dangerous, and frustrating as people race to ??? spend their aginaldo or whatever... After Christmas it slows down substantially and usually January returns to a quiet, saner, calmness. While gearing up the the grand finales this past week, we'll be doing the Christmas Eve dinner at friends and Christmas Day open house at another's house. Over the interim, we plan to do some day trips while everyone else is at the beach... Turkeys were half price or so C2,100 kilo or $2.10 lb at Walmart so one's in the freezer for the future...
