Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Construction Log
Updates about Hacienda El Dorado

Rio Oro: There's been some interest and movement on this project... when the rains let up, we'll see what might happen.

Despite all the rain, the river continues to behave just as we have seen in the past.

Residencias Los Jardines
Property Management, Rentals, Re-Sales

Internet: Despite having had it worked on this past week and seemingly being fixed, some clients are again experiencing problems. The tech is returning Saturday morning and will hopefully fix the problem once and for all... (at least for this round of problems.)

Market Activity: Quiet; one looker from Madrid for rentals...

Sales: no one, in fact Chris Howard's tour was canceled -he says he has a large group next month. Guess some of his clients did some homework and decided the rain and washed out infrastructure was too much to deal with in October.

Rentals: Unit 112 is still available.

Our Lives

WEATHER: The rains have eased this past week to 1/2 only with mostly sunny or light overcast mornings. It's a welcome relief to see the sun...

Cars: The clouds aligned and all moved in the same direction: After getting the JEEP spiffed up, I posted it for sale in an on-line chat blog. I got three inquiries, two lookers and the 2nd. person made a decision on the spot -he had just arrived in the country. We arranged with the lawyer for the paperwork to be completed the next morning and he drove off with it to Puerto Viejo where he had just purchased a property he plans turning into a B&B. Since that could have left me without a car for a few days because the purchase of the Pathfinder is so disorganized and strung out at the Vendor's end, I asked the vendor for use of the vehicle before the deal actually closed... He agreed and I asked the lawyer to develop some paperwork allowing the vehicle to be released to me. Lita and I picked it up near Grecia and it's now sitting in my parking spot waiting for me to learn it's secrets. All in all, this process has been relatively painless -the purchase has taken time but I knew it would given the vendor's situation but that was reflected in the price. Also, he is fortunate to have someone like me to help him through a process about which he hadn't a clue. For me, waiting, watching, and finally finding what I wanted (at least 1 of 4 options) was worth it. In the final analysis, however, it is just a car with 74,000 mi. on it (mostly USA) purchased 3 yrs. ago from Purdy Motors in San Jose for $21,500 and repurchased by me for a lot less (that's why I like older cars w/ low mileage and people leaving the country), like thousands of others here -not all those drivers could be mistaken.

Traffic Cameras: the government is now actively considering shutting down the traffic cameras. It seems like not only is there substantial objection to the excessive fines but that the revenue sharing deal made with the supplier of the equipment and RACSA is being questioned. Just another example of total incompetence.
