When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter —determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.
Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.
More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens —the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.
In an effort to make the format more interesting and visually appealing and to field inquiries re. El Dorado, the news letter is now being distributed by Jan Kozak, Marketing Manager, Hacienda El Dorado. I will remain the author.

Costa Rican Consumer Prices Fall Slightly in September
Costa Rica’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) reports that prices fell an average of 0.08 percent during the month of September, the first month this year that consumer prices have decreased. Despite the slight deflation, through the first nine months of the year, average consumer prices have risen 3.87 percent, about a full percentage point higher than during the same period of 2009, when inflation was 2.92 percent.

Residency: I got the translated documents in time for our Tuesday appointment with immigration. We had previously been assured the decision would be ready or at the worst if it wasn't ready, they would rush it through on that day (Oct. 5). I wasn't surprised when, after spending 2 1/2 hrs we were told that no review had occurred and we should return in 20 days. So my hope that they were actually respecting the 6 mo. time limit was just a fleeting dream.....and I knew it
Chaos: A number of people flip-flopped on their commitments, didn't do what they said they would do, re-thought their ???? this week and I've had to adjust. Time and effort was wasted..... In addition, I made a deal I don't much like ... That's the way things go some times. Building is much easier than dealing with people.
We're ready to take off again for a few days but the roads are problematic..the San Jose - Caldera highway --which we've gotten used to driving -- is closed for the foreseeable future as the finger pointing blame game heats up and the walls keep crumbling and the roadway continues to sink and fall away.... Driving the alternatives is not very desirable and they too, have their problems.
Good News: Long time friends with whom I used to work and haven't seen for about 10 years have committed to visiting in November...their first time. Something to look forward to.
