RENTAL VACANCIES

» NOTES

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter —determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens —the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

In an effort to make the format more interesting and visually appealing and to field inquiries re. El Dorado, the news letter is now being distributed by Jan Kozak, Marketing Manager, Hacienda El Dorado. I will remain the author.

Purchaser Survey: We're missing replies from 4 purchasers. Paul returns in October, we'll complete the analysis then.

» RESIDENCIAS LOS JARDINES

Rentals: We actually have three units scheduled to open -- 113 and 121 beginning Sept. 1 and 112 beginning Oct.1.

Phone System Malfunction: After many, many efforts to repair the PBX machine, it was finally accomplished. The fix wasn't cheap and we lost several weeks of data. We'll have to estimate the lost data. We ended up installing a surge protector on the phone lines as well to compensate for lighting and faulty grounding by ICE.

» OUR LIVES

Weather: The weather in Santa Ana has been fairly mild this past week.  No heavy downpours nor much lightning.

"Cow Town":
This is a new restaurant in Santa Ana.  It's had problems with the Municipalidad de Santa Ana maintaining it business license.  It's currently open but Josh said that there remained problems.  I hope he can work them through because the place is nice.  It's a brand new building, two story with table and bars on the 2nd. floor.  A very limited menu but what they serve is great and reasonably priced.....the first restaurant we've found in a long time which has both criteria. While there weren't a lot of patrons there at 7pm Friday,  we were fortunate to find five friends there and had a chance to catch up with them.  It was fun and Josh, the owner,  bought us several rounds of margaritas.

This was a pretty quiet week for us since we were without a car most of the time.  It was in for many repairs common to older cars being beaten to death on CR roads. Two days after the first set of repairs, several other items came to light and they had to be repaired.  The car is going to RITEVE on Monday.

Our friends who had allowed their RITEVE and their driver's license to expire and were stopped by the Transito police had a lot of problems getting it all sorted out.  They were caught in a classic catch 22:  They had to have their RITEVE before they could get their plates back for the car but the car had to have plates to go to the RITEVE.  They ended up flat bedding it to RITEVE and then made the rounds to various locations to retrieve their plates.  This was an expensive, very time consuming (two weeks) and frustrating experience.  I doubt they will soon forget this and doubt that it will happen again.  It's an experience for all of us to learn from.

Brian, Lita, Hugo, irreverent Vicka, the pigeon toed parrot, and the newbies — Chico and Chica.
