When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter —determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.
Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.
More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens —the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.
In an effort to make the format more interesting and visually appealing and to field inquiries re. El Dorado, the news letter is now being distributed by Jan Kozak, Marketing Manager, Hacienda El Dorado. I will remain the author.

Bamboo: we planted bamboo which will eventually screen out the ugly back yards of neighbors. It will take several years for this to mature. We also planted some large "yellow" bamboo along the stream. When this grows in, it will form an effective barricade and will take the place of a fence which we are not allowed to build within 10 meters of the stream. The bamboo will actually be more effective than any fence......anyone who has seen mature thickets of bamboo will understand that comment.
Environmental: the agreement with SETENA did not arrive as we were led to believe. Next week is another week..

Internet Woes: AMNET service continues this week to be unstable.
Dogs!: I received some strong reactions to the war on dog poo.... some of the reactions who have me believe that some dogs don't poo..... I've received some creative suggestions which are very interesting but I'd prefer to deal with this on a "responsible adult" basis. We'll see if everyone in question meets that description. The message has been delivered and the war will continue....we'll see.
Rentals: Unit 112--leased. I had two very similar offers at exactly the same time. I had two chat lines going within seconds of when I logged on in Granada.....I selected the offer which included a 6 mo. advance payment which was non-refundable... The previous tenant signed for a year and left after 7 weeks.--he bought a house.... We kept his deposits for a number of breachs but the owner still lost some moneyFor Sale: Unit 120 closed; We have two houses--107 and 108-- in various stages of closing. We expect unit 108 to close this week. That leaves us with only 109 available. It's a great unit and shows very well. We've had a number of viewings this week.

Weather: Afternoon rains and sunny the rest of the time.
Note: The newsletter was distributed last last week because Jan got locked out of his house with a gate malfunction and ended up taking off to the Caribbean without his computer.
Granada: At time of writing, we are in Granada....it continues to be a delightful town. We met up with a couple from Los Jardines. Had dinner with them and shared a few drinks. This was their first trip to Ganada; I think they will return.....if for nothing else, to eat that the only restaurant they ate at the 4 nights they were here....I admit, El Zaguan is a wonderful steak restaurant. It, alone, is worth the trip. The trip up was noteworthy for two reasons.....it was largely empty, made great time until we got to the border and then the CR DEA slowed everything down as they took a casual interest in "Lita" -- of all people, and then a serious interest in the single Nicaraguan sitting in front of her... That took 30 min. to sort out.....he was clean....and then when leaving the terminal on the Nicaraguan side, some official didn't think Lita's passport picture looked like her....finally, a colleague of his with glasses said she and the picture were one of the same people......who knows what his problem really was. Our favorite hotel is nearly empty; of the 35 rooms they have, not more than 4 have been occupied since we arrived. They say, however, that they are full most of next week with a group of medical students / doctors who come here several times a year and provide medical supplies and assistance to poor people... These group aid trips seem to originate in Costa Rica; they make several stops in Nicaragua....We've decided that our next trip to Nicaragua will probably be to San Juan del Sur.
Brian, Lita, Hugo, irreverent Vicka, the pigeon toed parrot, and the newbies — Chico and Chica.
