Residencias Los Jardines - Life & Times

ISSUE #691: Dec. 24, 2017 - Jan. 6, 2018

Holiday Doldrums

Brian Timmons, Newsletter Author
Brian Timmons

Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly newsletter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have re-sales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

Paradisus Condos - click to visit

Each of the units consists of two bedrooms / two bathrooms, and a large living/dining/kitchen area. The floor plan of each of these units has eliminated the optional "den / office" divider. The result is a larger area offering more flexible furniture arrangements while still maintaining the option of including an office area. At 105m2 plus two parking spots each and storage locker, they offer a great opportunity for someone seeking views, security, central location, and first class, all round living...

Our Lives

My Week:

Weather: We continue in the dry season with our normal strong winds. Watering continues to be a priority... we haven't gotten the rhythm yet. We have had, for us, some cool weather... however nothing like the US / Canada is experiencing and we will get no sympathy from that sector of the world...

Holiday Doldrums: This past week has been very slow with government offices, many businesses and some construction sites closed. All this changes, or is suppose to change, Monday, Jan. 8... if this year is like years past, government will gradually gear up and by Jan. 15 it should be functioning at is normal slow pace... This past week's doldrums hasn't bothered me much, since I have been down and out with a cold...

Dealing with Tragedy: Our friends who lost their daughter to suicide continue to cope and put pieces back together again‚Äč... it is a tough and emotional job and each deals with it differently. Coping with the normal is tough enough the older you get... throw in this wildcard and... wow!!!!

Scotiabank: demand for information... all 9 pages of forms and items some requiring a lawyer and an accountant. I am working on it. The notice said to provide the info "...information as soon as possible." I know from last time around, if you don't make it by their hidden deadline... yes, there is a deadline and no they don't tell you... they freeze your account. I inquired and that deadline is sometime in February. I expect to make it but if this is a normal event, there will be additional documents not yet listed that will be required... more scrambling...

Trip to Nicaragua: I have decided to drive this time... I've never done it before. To take the car over the border, a document involving the government has to be secured... I will have to figure it out... and then we will see if it works...

Nasty, Nasty Tenant: Every once in a while, we get a dussey. I had to chase he and his wife for the first month's rent. I then sold the house and the new owners acquired them. Unfortunately, the new owner are newbies to rental and not on top of their game. The tenants did not pay for the following 4 months while the owner dilly dallied and wrung her hands... She finally listened to a strategy I had been suggesting... they moved out three days later... but took every piece of furnishings they could... the OIJ was called in, the owner had an inventory list but couldn't understand it... I helped them... the owner knows where the tenant move to, but I don't know if they will pursue legal / criminal action or not... I know the manager of the compound to which the tenants moved... I contacted her and told her of our experiences... What she did or does from here on out, is up to her. My current belief is that they are professional "squatters" and this behavior is part of their DNA. My take is that from now on, if presented with someone from the area they were from and from their religious group I will say "no".
