Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Updates about Hacienda El Dorado

Rio Oro: We have two conversations on the go; both are interesting. Both parties are doing their due diligence and each are asking for information. We have one site visit scheduled for this coming week. We'll see where the talk takes us.

I expect the future of this project will be defined in 2012.

Market Activity: several showings for purchase.

Bar-b-q: We have two bar-b-qs which were new two years ago. Parts of them had burned out and needed to be replaced. I asked a friend coming from Canada to pick up what I needed and gave him a parts list. This didn't happen. A resident I I took both units apart and determined what we needed to replace and what we could live with. Fortunately, I had had experience with this process before and determined that all the parts we needed right now, we could have made here. So with old parts in hand and drawings, we headed to a place in SJ which dealt with stainless steel. They were closed or out of business but as we worked our way around the area, we spotted another place. Reviewed the drawings, determined that we needed a heavier gauge of metal than he had in stock, ordered the parts made, paid the deposit and returned a day later to find all the parts ready. The resident and one of the gardeners worked on replacing the the parts and both units now work like new.

Our Lives

WEATHER: substantial winds and cool with a fair amount of overcast.

We were on a modified work schedule over the holidays and are now back to the normal grind. I've been kept busy sourcing the info. requested by each group interested in El Dorado... the bar-b-q repairs, invoicing, collecting the money, transferring to owners their money, and finishing the outfitting of 116 and doing some modifications to 112... somewhere in between there was time for a few margaritas and dinners with friends...

Friends arrived for the third and final phase of their dental work. They'll be here for about three weeks.
