Residencias Los Jardines - Life & Times

ISSUE #323: Oct 4-9, 2010

Sun, Glorious Sun & Chaos

Sun, Glorious Sun & Chaos

» NOTES

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter —determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens —the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

In an effort to make the format more interesting and visually appealing and to field inquiries re. El Dorado, the news letter is now being distributed by Jan Kozak, Marketing Manager, Hacienda El Dorado. I will remain the author.

Rio Oro: The chaos in the US forclosure process may help CR if it weren't for the low dollar / colon exchange rate -- that doesn't help at all.

Market Comment: No clients for rentals or sales this week. The interest of last week didn't carry through to this week.

Based on developments this week, I've rethought my interest in marketing two Los Jardines properties.

Time For Costa Rica To Dollarize?
By most measures, our success in globalizing has become a successful and costly venture We recognize that the country has had an exponential increase in foreign trade supported by such mega companies as Intel, HP, Boston Scientific, P&G, Kraft and the myriad of large and small outsource centers, especially agriculture not to mention the injured but not at all lifeless international business of tourism, and real estate sales.

If You Intend To Move Or Retire in Costa Rica Do So For Reasons Other Than Profit
I argue, this thing about Costa Rica as a haven for Baby Boomers is just unrealistic and could be costly to naïve investors, especially seniors who visualize living cheaply, great returns on investment as well as making new friends on some fictitious yet to be built golf course, the unheated swimming pool and B.B.Q.

» OUR LIVES

Weather: Sun, Glorious Sun!!!!!  it's actually rained very little this week and we have had 4 days of mostly sunny skies and drying breezes. What a welcome sight and feel. There will be more rain in our near future but this was / is a treat..

Residency: I got the translated documents in time for our Tuesday appointment with immigration. We had previously been assured the decision would be ready or at the worst if it wasn't ready, they would rush it through on that day (Oct. 5).  I wasn't surprised when, after spending 2 1/2 hrs we were told that no review had occurred and we should return in 20 days. So my hope that they were actually respecting the 6 mo. time limit was just a fleeting dream.....and I knew it

Chaos:  A number of people flip-flopped on their commitments, didn't do what they said they would do, re-thought their ???? this week and I've had to adjust. Time and effort was wasted..... In addition, I made a deal I don't much like ...  That's the way things go some times.  Building is much easier than dealing with people.

We're ready to take off again for a few days but the roads are problematic..the San Jose - Caldera highway --which we've gotten used to driving -- is closed for the foreseeable future as the finger pointing blame game heats up and the walls keep crumbling and the roadway continues to sink and fall away....  Driving the alternatives is not very desirable and they too, have their problems.

Good News: Long time friends with whom I used to work and haven't seen for about 10 years have committed to visiting in November...their first time.  Something to look forward to.
